Legendary Winnipeg grocery store owner Joe Cantor has died.
Cantor died on Saturday of a heart attack. He was 88.
Cantor, along with his mother and his brother Oscar, took a small Magnus Avenue grocery operated by their father Edward, moved it to Logan Avenue, and created a local institution.
Cantor successfully fought to get rid of the minimum price of milk across the country in the 1980s.
He also sparred with the Freshwater Fish Marketing Board for the right to sell fish to his customers directly from the fishers.
