Harvey's will be able to open drive-through window at Corydon location

A Harvey's fast-food restaurant planned for Corydon Avenue will be able to open a drive-through window.

City council's City Centre community committee voted 2-1 Tuesday night to allow a commercial building at the southeast corner of Corydon Avenue and Stafford Street to be pulled out of a special planning district where drive-through windows are not allowed.

The building used to house a Chicken Delight restaurant with drive-through window that was grandfathered because it opened before the city created new zoning rules in 2008. The owners of the building would have been allowed to apply for a drive-through window had they made an application within a year of the old restaurants closing in June 2011.

After the the year lapsed, building owner Moe Investments complained Fort Rouge Coun. Jenny Gerbasi, the Corydon Business Improvement Zone and city planners failed to inform them of the deadline.

In an effort to allow Harvey's owner Cara Foods to open a drive-through, they applied to remove the structure from the planning district.

On Tuesday evening, Couns. John Orlikow (River Heights-Fort Garry) and Harvey Smith (Daniel McIntyre) voted in favour of Moe Investments, while Gerbasi opposed the move.

This particular ruling can not be appealed, so Harvey's will be allowed to open the drive-through window.
