Haviland to interview for new NHL coach spot

WINNIPEG — Chicago Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Haviland has an interview scheduled with Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff on Friday, sources have told the Free Press.

The 43-year-old New Jersey native has spent three years with the Blackhawks after coaching the organization's AHL club for three years. Prior to that, Haviland was a head coach in the ECHL for four years, and in all of his AHL-ECHL seasons, never won less than 41 regular-season games.

Winnipeg's new NHL team is also believed to be interviewing Manitoba Moose coach Claude Noel and former Edmonton Oilers coach and TSN TV analyst Craig MacTavish.

Atlanta Thrashers head coach Craig Ramsay has also been granted an interview.
