Health-care workers choose CUPE

Health-care support workers in the new Southern health authority have chosen the Canadian Union of Public Employees to represent them, CUPE announced today.

The decision follows weeks of representation votes triggered when the provincial government announced the amalgamation of several regional health authorities last May, a CUPE news release said.

Health-care support workers had the choice between the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU) and CUPE.

Ballots for the new Interlake-Eastern RHA will be counted by the Manitoba Labour Board on Feb. 19, the release said.

Dates have not yet been set for the counting of ballots for the new Prairie Mountain health authority for western Manitoba. The voting took place in January, the release said.
