Have you ever wondered what it looked like inside the fabulous St. Mary's Cathedral? Or the Mariaggi's Theme Suite Hotel? Or the Vaughan Street Jail?
This weekend is your chance to find out.
Heritage Winnipeg is hosting the 10th annual Doors Open Winnipeg, a free event on Saturday and Sunday featuring 81 historic buildings and sites around the city. There are 13 new sites on the list including St. Mary's Cathedral at 353 St. Mary Ave. which is in its 125th year.
"All those buildings that seemed mysterious to you, the doors are open to you this weekend only," Jordan Van Sewell, the Heritage Winnipeg president and a local artist, said at a press conference on Wednesday to announce the event.
Guided tours will be available in many of the buildings and sites.
Members of the public can vote on favourite their favourites in five categories. Awards designed by Van Sewell will be presented on June 20 at the Winnipeg Free Press Cafe for the best restoration, best tour, best architecture, best overall experience and the hidden gem.
