High-school basketball championships start Thursday

The brackets are set for Manitoba's very own March Madness, as the provincial high-school basketball championship gets underway this week.

On Thursday, the University of Manitoba Investor's Group Centre will host the girls' semi-final matches, which will see the defending champion Glenlawn Lions take on the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes at 8 p.m.

The top-seeded Oak Park Raiders, who have been to the finals the last three years running, will battle the Sisler Spartans at 6 p.m. for their chance at getting to the final for the fourth straight year.

The boys' semi-finals will take place on Friday, starting when the Sisler Spartans take on the Kelvin Clippers at 6 p.m. The 8 p.m. match will pit the defending Garden City Fighting Gophers against the 11th-seeded Sturgeon Heights Huskies.

The finals are slated for Monday, with the girls taking the court at 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m.

All championship games will be broadcast live on Shaw.
