High winds cause power outages

Hundreds of Manitobans were left without power this afternoon after strong winds knocked trees onto power lines.

Manitoba Hydro spokeswoman Anita Mitchell said about 2,500 customers in Russell lost power around 3 p.m. and hundreds of other customers in Inglis, Oakburn and other areas in western Manitoba also experienced outages.

Mitchell said strong winds blew over trees and downed power lines. She said Hydro has been able to restore power to about 1,000 customers in Russell.

"We're getting a lot of reports of trees on power lines," she said.
