Hotel owner has 60 days to install sprinkler system: city

Winnipeg will move to take possession of the St. Charles Hotel if the owner fails to comply with an order to install a sprinkler system in the 100-year-old building.
This morning, council's downtown development committee voted to uphold an order to get St. Charles Hotel owner Ken Zaifman to comply with the city's vacant and derelict building bylaw. The move means Zaifman will have a further 60 days to install a sprinkler system in the building or the city can issue a derelict building certificate and start the process of taking title.
Zaifman has been working on plans to redevelop the site into a boutique hotel since 2008.
