RCMP are investigating after human remains were found in a rural area near Selkirk Saturday.

Selkirk RCMP responded to the scene north of Selkirk at around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of the discovery.

A small area of woods next to a field off a small dirt road was taped off as RCMP removed a body from the scene around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The RCMP's major-crime unit, forensic-identification unit and search and rescue team were all on the scene.

"We're still in the early stages of this," Cpl. Miles Hiebert said.

An autopsy will be conducted.
