Humane Society waiving cat adoption fees for one day

The Winnipeg Humane Society, overflowing with felines, is waiving its adoption fees for one day only.

On Friday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., there will be no fee to adopt a cat over four months of age. (Kittens under four months are $99.)

"We are at a tipping point," CEO Bill McDonald said in a press release. "We prefer to adopt as many cats as we can to loving homes than face the alternative."

The shelter received 606 cats in October alone, and expects animals to continue arriving for the next two weeks.

The WHS takes in between 8,000 and 9,000 animals on an annual basis. The record was 195 cats in seven days back in 2009.
