WINNIPEG — The awards keep piling up for Manitoba Hydro Place.

Already widely praised for its innovative energy-efficient design, Manitoba Hydro Place has been named one of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment Top 10 Green Projects from all over the world. The award honours examples of sustainable architecture and green-design solutions that protect and enhance the environment and will be celebrated at a convention in Miami.

The 23-storey building on Portage Avenue uses geothermal heating and radiant cooling to make it one of the most energy-efficient office towers in the world. In 2009 it won the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's best tall building in the Americas award.

This year's AIA Top 10 includes the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia as well as storm-resistant housing in New Orleans designed for Brad Pitt's Make it Right Foundation.
