IKEA's restaurant ready for big opening

Wednesday's forecast is partly cloudy and a 100 per cent chance of Swedish meatballs.

And Swedish just about everything else, for that matter.

That's the day IKEA finally opens the doors to its 400,000-square-foot store at the corner of Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard.

The kitchen serving the 651-seat restaurant -- the biggest in Winnipeg -- has been open for several weeks now, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to construction workers and fellow IKEA employees. The Free Press got a sneak peek -- and taste -- of IKEA's signature menu item. The verdict is "yum."
