The bridge linking Selkirk and East Selkirk was closed this morning when an ice jam backed up the Red River over Provincial Road 204.
The province said a minor ice jam formed near Sugar Island, just north of Selkirk, to the golf course, south of the community.
The jam forced the river to over flow its banks onto Provincial Road 204, a low spot in the area which floods frequently during the spring.
A provincial spokesman said the river level in Selkirk is well below flood stage and seven feet lower than the crest of 2009.
The ice jam is expected to move soon, but the cooler weather could result in that not happening until the weekend.
