Investigation into missing man over, vehicle found

The saga of a missing hunter who turned up after 23 days in the bush has closed, after the man’s vehicle was found.

Authorities had launched an air and ground search for Brad Lambert, 46, after he went missing in southeastern Manitoba.

His vehicle has now turned up in a forest, a source told the Free Press.

Police confirmed Tuesday their investigation into the matter was done.

"The missing person investigation involving Mr. Lambert is now concluded," said a spokeswoman for the Winnipeg Police Service. Police said Tuesday they won’t be commenting further on the matter.

Lambert said after spending days in the bush, he was picked up by an ice fisher who drove him to a Marchand store.

Lambert had spoken to police Monday about his ordeal, and said he just did a "general debrief" over what transpired.

He said police dealt with him "extremely respectfully."

"They’ve got a tough job to do, and they really did right by me," he said.

The correctional officer said he’s not troubled by online criticism of the way he says he survived for days with no heat, no fire and no food.

"It doesn’t bother me one bit. I know what happened, I’m not a hoax artist," said Lambert, on Tuesday.

He said he’s grateful he survived the experience.

"I know it sounds like kind-of a cheesy, Hallmark thing but the one thing I did gain from this is perspective as to what’s important, and it’s my family, and my friends and loved ones, and that’s the bottom line. People will believe or disbelieve what they choose to," he said.
