It's business as usual at the Free Press News Café

Don't be alarmed by talk about the sale of the Free Press News Café -- the café will continue to operate.

"The Free Press is not changing our position in the News Café," Free Press publisher Bob Cox said Sunday.

The Free Press operates the news café at 237 McDermot Ave. in partnership with its owner, who has chosen to put the business itself on the market, he said.

"The Free Press doesn't actually own the café," said Cox.

"Whatever new owner comes along, we want to be marketing and operating partners with him," said Cox.

The publisher said it is unlikely anyone would buy the Exchange District business without intending to continue having the news café affiliation continue.

"You'd want to buy it because of the association with the Free Press," Cox said.

The news café features speakers, panels, interviews and other media events. Free Press newsroom staff, including several specializing in online and social media content, are based there.
