A Winnipeg Jets legend, an iconic basketball booster and an Olympic swimmer are among the nine athletes and teams that will be placed into provincial sports history this year.

This morning, the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame revealed the 2013 inductees, who will be formally brought into the Hall at a gala dinner on November 2.

The list includes Winnipeg Jet icon Dale Hawerchuk, basketball booster Bill Wedlake and Olympic swimmer Shannon Shakespeare, who trained with the Manitoba Marlins and represented Canada at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games.

Also among the four athletes, two builders, one all-round inductee and two teams is former major league baseball player Cory Koskie, who hails from Anola, all-round athlete Faye Finch, table-tennis athlete and builder Art Werier, the 1936, 1942 and 1949 Ken Watson Brier-winning curling teams, and the 1983-88 Carman Goldeyes senior baseball club. In addition, curling booster John T. Haig will be inducted posthumously.

The 2013 inductees will join 459 members honoured in the Hall since it was established in 1980. Tickets for the 2013 induction dinner go on sale on Aug. 1, and can be purchased at ManitobaHallOfFame.ca.
