Jets, IceCaps extend relationship for another year

WINNIPEG — As slam dunks go, this one was virtually effortless.

The Winnipeg Jets have extended their affiliation with the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps for an extra year. Their partnership now runs through the 2014-15 season.

Both teams are coming off sold-out seasons that were the talk of their respective leagues. All 46 home games in St. John’s were sold out in 2011-12.

"One year ago we were thrilled with the opportunity to partner with Glenn Stanford and Danny Williams in an effort to return the American Hockey League to St. John’s," Craig Heisinger, the Jets assistant who holds the additional title of GM of the IceCaps, said in a statement.

"As an affiliated organization, we were immediately rewarded by the success of the St. John’s IceCaps on the ice and the immense community support off of it.

"We are excited about the chance to extend our affiliation with the IceCaps and the city of St. John’s and look forward to strengthening this relationship."

Today, the Jets also announced the signing of forward Maxime Macenauer, 23.

Macenauer, originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, was acquired by the Jets organization near last winter’s trading deadline. He played nine games in St. John’s during the regular season and 10 more in the playoffs. He has received a two-way deal.
