Jets lead league in missed shots

It’s not a statistic the Winnipeg Jets will be particularly proud of at all – they now have the distinction of leading the National Hockey League in one critical category:

Missed shots.

The Jets, who have vowed to get more shots on their opponents’ goal, finished with 23 shots in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Boston, but stilll missed the Bruins’ net a whopping 26 times. That gives the Jets 208 missed shots in 14 games this year, most in the NHL.

"We had some good opportunities in their end and had some good cycles going on down low," said Jet winger Evander Kane, who led all shooters with six shots – he also had two misses – while scoring his fourth of the season. "We had some opportunities, but the bounces just didn’t go our way. They put pressure on you in their defensive zone and you’ve just got to move the puck quickly in order to beat that pressure and find ways to get pucks to the net."

The Jets had just five shots in the first period and nine in each of the second and third. The Bruins, meanwhile, had just four shots in the third period – but one of them, courtesy Brad Marchand on the power-play, was the game winner.

"I thought we battled. We played, we put more shots at the net. But I still think we passed up on quite a few of them, but we really could have put more there."

ENSTROM UPDATE: Noel provided this update on the injury to defenceman Toby Enstrom, who was injured last Friday and had an MRI on his shoulder over the weekend:

"He’ll be out a couple of weeks… at least. And we’ll take it week by week."

SPECIAL TEAMS WOES: The Jets were 0-for-2 on the power-play while their league-worst penalty kill unit was scored on in the Bruins lone chance. Winnipeg’s PK percentage is now just 65.9 per cent.

NUMBERS GAME: Mark Stuart played in his 400th career NHL game tonight. The first 283 were played with the Bruins… Boston has now held their opponent to two goals or fewer in eight games this season. And in those games they are 8-0-0… Claude Julien now has 237 wins as the Bruins head coach, third on the team’s all-time list and just eight back of tying Milt Schmidt for second.
