Jets to host Hurricanes, Blackhawks when season kicks off

PITTSBURGH — The Jets will open their second NHL schedule at home with a pair of games this October.

The Carolina Hurricanes come in to kick off the 2012-13 season on Oct. 13 in an afternoon game at the MTS Centre.

Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks make their first official visit to Winnipeg with Game No. 2 of the season, Tuesday, Oct. 16. It’s listed as a 7 p.m., so it’s looking like the team has switched home-game starting times this season to 30 minutes earlier.

Other highlights for the season upcoming: Detroit at the Jets Oct. 27; Montreal at the Jets Nov. 15; Leafs at the Jets Nov. 29; Sidney Crosby and the Penguins at the Jets on Dec. 15; Ottawa Senators at the Jets Winnipeg Jan. 19; Calgary Flames at the Jets on Feb. .28; and the Vancouver Canucks at the Jets Feb. 9.

All of this is contingent, of course, on the league and its players working out a new collective bargaining agreement. The current one expires on Sept. 15.
