Jones foursome on top again

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. -- Jennifer Jones and her Winnipeg team gutted out a third straight Canadian women's curling title this afternoon.
Jones, the two-time defending champions wearing Team Canada colours, battled back from a three-point deficit through six ends to defeat Prince Edward Island 8-7 in an extra end in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts championship game.
The team will now represent Canada at the Ford world women's championship in Swift Current, Sask., March 20-28.
And they'll be back at the Scotties in 2011 as Team Canada in Charlottetown.
Jones is joined by third Cathy Overton-Clapham, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn Askin.
"We're a gutsy team," Jones said. "The girls played tough in the back half and made some good shots when we had to.
"To win three in a row is pretty incredible. And the way we won today, the way we came back, it's pretty awesome I have to tell you."
The loss ended a dream run for P.E.I., which has never had a team in the women's final. And what a story it would have been, had Kathy O'Rourke's team prevailed and earned a trip to their home town next year to defend the title.
Erin Carmody, who throws the last stones for P.E.I., was light on a draw in the ninth end to give up a steal of two as Canada moved ahead 7-6
In the 10th end, P.E.I. took one to force an extra end.
But Canada scored one in the 11th when Jones picked out a P.E.I. counter that was two-thirds open.

Luck was on their side, thats all I have to say. Those young girls from PEI are gonna kick butt in a couple of years. Those 2 shots that PEI skip stones threw and missed were the only thing that kept Jennifer and girls from getting that ring again! Good to see them win though!

Canada was not that good. They got lucky. PEI has a good team to go forward with. The young gals were great. Good future ahead of them.

All PEI is missing is more experience in calling the game at that level or in those circustances & a skip that can make decisions on her own. They could also benefit from two weeks of intense strategy sessions with Ray and Cathy. They looked very confused as the game got a little more complicated as it came down to the 8th and 9th end.I felt somewhat embarassed for them.An experienced coach would have been a great help to them today as well..He seemed way out of his league.PEI was more confused after they talked to him.PEEL THE GUARD.Why is it women curlers feel the need to apologize after every shot.Sorry Cathy, Sorry Jen,sorry sorry sorry. As in golf, curling is not a game of perfect. The PEI skip had to take more control of the game & be more assertive, make a dam decision on your own for once.see Kevin Martin,Jeff Stoughton etc I understand the need to get input from other team members, but not as often as I saw today and during the week.Way too much discussion and not enough assertive and firm decisions. Please somebody take control.Thank goodness Jennifer Jones won today because PEI would get slaugtered in the Worlds. The fairy tale week for PEI ended on the right note for me.One more rant. Why is it when a female curler makes a lowsy shot, not even close to what is being called the skip says Ok that's good, that'll work.A female skip w a bit of a mean streak would go along way in the Womens game.Break a broom, stop being so dam nice.If my wife saw rant this she wouold kill me

Wow, what a game! Talk about stress levels.
In as much as Team Canada is a Winnipeg team, I had watched Team P.E.I. all the way, and was really impressed with the absolute control that team took over every game. They were definitely equal to the task of challenging Team Canada. Those ladies were impressive.
