Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz says he has severed all business ties with senior executives at Shindico Realty.

Katz said this afternoon he has purchased all shares in the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball club he did not previously own. He said he paid out the Crocus Investment Fund as well as Shindico executives Robert and Sandy Shindleman.

Those shares amounted to 35 per cent of the baseball team, Katz said. The combined purchase price was more than $1 million, he said.

Katz said he made the move after pledging in September 2012 to end further speculation about his relationship with officials at Shindico.

An external audit of Winnipeg’s fire-paramedic station replacement program, tabled on Monday, concluded Shindico had an advantage over other firms when it came to the award of contracts to build four new fire-paramedic stations.
