Kids skate today on big ice at MTS Centre

WINNIPEG — Two hundred and fifty elementary school students will get the chance to lace up the blades and skate at MTS Centre today, part of a program to remind adults that it takes a village to raise healthy children.

The "Ice Venture" will see two groups of 25 children each between the ages of 6 and 9 take to the ice for an hour between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Run by the Canadian Association for Young Children Manitoba, the event is designed to "level the playing field" for all children. Today's lucky students will be skating in their own skates, thanks to a CAYC MB skate drive held last week.

CAYC MB is providing a coach bus to pick up the children, teachers and volunteers.

Schools invited to participate include Prince Edward School, William Whyte School, Strathcona School, David Livingstone School Age Child Care, John de Graff School, O.V. Jewitt School, Turtle Island Neighbourhood After School Program, James Nesbitt School, Constable Finney School, Elwick School and David Livingstone School.
