Kusano, Hynes step in to coach Bisons women's basketball

The University of Manitoba Bisons women's basketball team will be led in the 2012-2013 Canada West conference season by Randy Kusano, the winningest coach in Manitoba high school basketball, and former Bisons player Michele Hynes.

Kusano, 60, and Hynes, 24, were announced on Friday as interim co-coaches for the Bisons as head coach Pam Danis has taken a one-year leave.

"With coach Danis currently on leave we are confident in coach Hynes and coach Kusano’s abilities to guide the Bison program at this time," said Coleen Dufresne, the U of M athletic director, in a statement. "Coach Hynes has demonstrated great leadership both as a player and assistant coach and coach Kusano brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the program."

Kusano coached the Oak Park Raiders for 34 years winning Manitoba High School Athletic Association varsity boys' AAAA championship titles before retiring from teaching in 2010.

Hynes was a Bisons team captain for three consecutive years (2007-2010) and has earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the U of Manitoba. She is currently enrolled in Faculty of Engineering.

The Manitoba Bisons women’s basketball team will start the 2012-13 regular season on Nov. 2-3 at Calgary against the Dinos and their first home conference action is Nov. 9-10 against the Brandon Bobcats at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
