The fall wind season has arrived on Manitoba's larger lakes and the province is warning property owners along shorelines to take precautions.
Lake levels are higher than normal on Lakes Manitoba, St. Martin, Winnipegosis, Winnipeg and Dauphin, which could be trouble if combined with strong autumn winds, said the province's Hydrologic Forecast Centre. However, lake levels are lower than in September of 2011.
Property owners should move valuables to higher ground and watch for wind warnings. Moderate to severe winds can develop suddenly, with prolonged winds in one direction causing high wave action.
