Laundromat customer helps thwart attempted robbery

A man is in custody following an attempt to rob a Selkirk Avenue laundromat Saturday night.

Police say a man entered the laundromat in the 500 block of Selkirk just after 9 p.m., attempting to conceal his identity by covering his face with his shirt.

The man demanded cash from the business’s 55-year-old male employee, police say. The situation escalated when the suspect attempted to remove the entire cash register and began assaulting the employee. A customer in the laundromat, a 44-year-old man, restrained the suspect.

Police arrived at 9:10 p.m. and took the suspect into custody. They continue to investigate.
