A fire that originated in an attached garage destroyed a large two-storey home in the 120 block of Shoreline Drive in Linden Woods. There were no injuries but firefighters worked to protect surrounding homes.
Winnipeg police say the blaze that destroyed a Linden Woods home this morning was accidental, and pegged the damage at an estimated $3 million.
The fire has been traced to a heater in the garage, police said this afternoon.

The blaze at the multi-level home broke out at around 7:30 a.m. and sent black smoke billowing into the air over Linden Woods. By 8:45 a.m. the home, which belonged to the CEO of a major Manitoba retailer, was little more than a charred skeleton.
The occupants of the house apparently escaped without injuries. Edward and Stella Kennedy have three daughters and a son.
Edward Kennedy is top executive if The North West Company, known for serving rural communities. The Kennedy family was apparently taken in by a neighbour as the house burned.
The blaze was reportedly first discovered by a 20-year-old Kennedy daughter who went to the garage to start her vehicle.
The architecturally striking home on Shoreline Drive was hidden by flames by 7:30 a.m. Firefighters in a ladder truck and standing in the driveway poured water on the inferno and also moved to protect neighbouring homes.
Shoreline is south of Lindenwood Drive West, between Kleysen Park and Van Walleghem Park.
