Biomedical Commercialization Canada Inc. (BCC), the Winnipeg business incubator, is changing its name to the Manitoba Technology Accelerator.
Marshall Ring, CEO of the Manitoba Technology Accelerator, said there were many factors involved in the decision to re-brand, not the least of which is that the not-for-profit organization works with more than just biomedical companies.
"First, we have a great new space in the exchange district with an open environment," Ring said. "Although we have great medical device companies, we are also working with very exciting IT companies. Therefore, we felt we needed a name that better reflected our environment, our client base, and our service offering".
BCC used to be housed next to the National Research Council on Ellice Avenue but for close to a year has been at 500-321 McDermot Ave.
The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is also located there as well as companies that the CYBF help fund.
Part of the core services of MTA is to offer office space to their member companies — number about a dozen — in their 5,000 square feet location.
"It is all about trying to create a successful environment to go out there and grow businesses," Ring said.
