Satellite phone service provided to Lynn Lake, Leaf Rapids

WINNIPEG — With the prolonged loss of long distance phone service to Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids, additional satellite phones have been provided to the communities, RCMP say.

They are being monitored on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure that emergency services are provided, police said. Mail drops have been done to each residence with information on emergency services.

Local phone service is still available as well as local 911 service to the respective nursing stations. People outside of the communities wanting to make contact with the Leaf Rapids and Lynn Lake RCMP Detachments can call 983-5462.
