MLA says cattle need to be moved
The flood-induced livestock-industry crisis has Emerson MLA Cliff Graydon musing about reviving a plan to temporarily place cattle on Nature Conservancy of Canada land near Stuartburn.
On Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Stan Struthers declared a livestock emergency, noting 100,000 head of cattle may have to be moved to higher ground.

The emergency gives cattle producers priority access to closed roads, so they can move animals out.
It also grants them access to Crown land.
This morning, Graydon suggested cattle may also be stored on Nature Conservancy land, a plan created during former floods.
Graydon said another 15,000 cattle needs to be moved from lands around the Shoal Lakes, which are expanding to record levels.
The Shoal Lakes, located in the southwest Interlake, have no natural outlet.
