MTS will offer Jets channel
MTS today announced that Winnipeg Jets games will be available to its TV customers. The new TSN Jets channel will provide coverage of Winnipeg Jets 2011-12 home and away games.
A free preview will be available to MTS TV customers until Oct. 31, 2011.
Starting Oct. 3, MTS TV customers will be able to sign up for the telecasts that continue after the free preview ends. These telecasts will be available for the remainder of the season for $9.95 per month, MTS said in a press release. Between Oct. 3 and Oct. 31, customers who commit to purchase the entire season of games will be entered in a draw for a chance to see a Jets game from the MTS private suite.
TSN Jets will be available in standard definition on Channel 168 and in high definition on Channel 480.
Winnipeg Jets games not carried on TSN Jets will be broadcast nationally on either TSN or CBC, both of which are part of the MTS TV basic TV package.
The announcement follows Shaw’s on Friday, offering Jets coverage to its cable TV customers for the same price.
TSN Jets will be available to Shaw customers for free until Dec. 1 in both standard and high definition. The subscription will then be available for the remainder of the season at $9.95 per month which works out to less than $1 per game.
Only Winnipeg fans (of the seven Canadian markets) are being asked to pay extra for hockey games that are on regional networks.
TSN Jets is a regional channel that broadcasts all team games that aren't carried on the main TSN network or CBC.
TSN Jets will broadcast more than 60 pre-season and regular-season games across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and parts of northwestern Ontario.
