Man, 26, dies after car submerged in water

A 26-year-old B.C. man has died after sustaining serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident on a Manitoba highway last week.

RCMP officers were called to the RM of Strathclair on Highway 16 just east of Shoal Lake last Thursday after a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier left the road and rolled into a water-filled ditch. The 28-year-old driver, also from B.C., was able to escape but the passenger was trapped inside the submerged vehicle for several minutes until passing motorists were able to pull it from the water with a truck and tow rope.

The victim’s name is not being released.
