Man beaten with bat taken to hospital with multiple injuries

A man, 44, beaten with a baseball bat during a robbery early Thursday was taken to hospital with multiple injuries, police said today.

Three people went up to the man about 3 a.m. Thursday near Ellice Avenue and Maryland Street and robbed him of cash after beating him with the bat.

The trio then took  the victim to a nearby convenience store and forced him to buy cigarettes. A clerk saw the man's injuries and called for emergency help, causing the robbers to flee.

 About forty minutes later, police located a 23-year-old man on the 400 block of Victor Street and arrested him. Police also arrested two 16-year-old boys near Ellice Avenue and Young Street.

Police said after the baseball bat robbery the two had allegedly broken into two vehicles.

Justin Mark Hall, 23, is charged with robbery with a weapon.

The two teenagers were charged with robbery with a weapon, two counts of mischief under $5,000, and court breaches. All three were detained.
