Man charged with drunk driving in crash that killed passenger

Charges have been brought against the driver of a car involved in a fatal rollover near Cypress River in June.

RCMP said Curtis Cabernel, 22, of Cypress River, is charged with one count of impaired driving causing death, two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, and two counts of impaired driving over 80 mgs causing bodily harm.

The rollover happened June 24 just before 3 a.m. on PR 342, 1.6 kilometres south of Cypress River in the RM of Victoria.

The initial investigation found the driver lost control on the gravel road and rolled the vehicle.

The crash killed a young woman in the vehicle; her name has not been released.  Four others in the vehicle were also injured, including Cabernel.

Cabernel was initially taken to Glenboro Hospital and then by air ambulance to Winnipeg with serious injuries.

A 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were also taken to Glenboro for their injuries. A 46-year-old woman was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre with serious injuries.
