Man dies after being trapped in snowmobile

  • Print

A man is dead following a bizarre incident near Virden Wednesday.

At approximately 4 p.m., Virden RCMP and local emergency personnel responded to a call to a rural property in the R.M. of Woodworth, where a man was reported to be trapped by a snowmobile.

The 55-year-old was found pinned between the track of the snowmobile and the machine itself. RCMP say it looks like the man was working on the snowmobile in a shed or garage when the mishap occurred.

It is not known exactly how long the man was trapped in the snowmobile track before emergency personnel arrived. A call from the residence was made to authorities soon after the man was heard screaming for help, an RCMP spokesperson said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Brandon.

The R.M. of Woodworth is northeast of Virden. No further information is available.
