Man dies at Selkirk pool

A Selkirk man died while at the Selkirk Park pool and splash pad with his daughter Monday afternoon.

The 44-year-old man was visiting the outdoor pool with his five-year-old daughter, said Randy Borsa, chief administrative officer of the City of Selkirk.

The man had lifted his daughter onto his shoulders and was swimming with her in the deep end of the pool, Borsa said.

During a scan of the pool around 1:30 p.m., one of the lifeguards noticed the little girl calling for help. Two lifeguards swam over to the girl and found her father submerged.

The lifeguards lifted the man to the side of the pool and began providing medical assistance until local emergency services personnel took over.

The man was transported to Selkirk Hospital where he was pronounced dead, RCMP said.

RCMP said an autopsy in the coming days will determine the cause of death.

The man's name has not been released.
