Man faces charges after stolen Jeep collides with truck

A Winnipeg man is in custody after a head-on crash between a Jeep and semi-tractor on Inkster Boulevard on Wednesday morning.

Winnipeg police said officers southbound on Sturgeon Road spotted a speeding Jeep Cherokee heading north at about 11:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers turned around and began following the Jeep, which could be seen swerving in and out of traffic.

The Jeep turned east onto Inkster Boulevard and collided with the westbound semi, rolled and came to a stop in the ditch on the north side of the road.

WPS spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen said officers weren’t involved in a chase, adding the Jeep had crashed by the time police caught up with it.

The driver of the crashed Jeep had been injured but became involved in a confrontation with officers, he said.

Police learned later that the Jeep had been stolen and its plates had been stolen from another vehicle.

George Elliot Prieston, 44, has been charged with two counts of possessing stolen goods, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, two counts of uttering threats, and failing to comply with bail conditions.
