Man facing charges for child pornography

A national agency fighting child exploitation is being credited with catching a local man who is accused of posting pornographic images of children on the Internet.

Winnipeg police said the WPS Internet child exploitation (ICE) unit was informed in January by the National Child Exploitation Centre, based in Ottawa, that a Winnipeg resident had been posting pornographic images of children.

Local police launched an investigation, which resulted in a search warrant Tuesday for a residence in the northwest part of Winnipeg.

Police said a 43-year-old man has been arrested and is facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

The man has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
