Man hurt after truck slams into bridge

An occupant of a delivery truck was hospitalized after the vehicle heading on Assiniboine Avenue struck the Midtown Bridge Tuesday, closing the street.

An occupant of a delivery truck was hospitalized after the vehicle heading on Assiniboine Avenue struck the Midtown Bridge Tuesday, closing the street.

A delivery truck slammed into the side of the Midtown Bridge over Assiniboine Avenue during the noon hour, sending one man to hospital.

By midafternoon, the truck was still wedged under the low bridge.

The city’s Public Works Department sent out a bridge-inspection technologist, but they didn’t see any notable damage, a spokesperson for the city said. Once the truck is removed, the city will re-inspect for signs of serious damage. The spokesperson said there was no need to close the bridge to traffic.
