Man in critical condition after assault in North End

A 23-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital and a 26-year-old man is in custody after an assault early Sunday morning in the North End.

Two men, who Winnipeg police say were known to each other, got into a fight in the 300 block of Bannerman Avenue at about 1:30 a.m.

Emergency personnel responded and took the 23-year-old to hospital, where he is in critical condition, according to a Winnipeg police news release.

This afternoon, police arrested a 26-year-old man, who faces an aggravated assault charge. The case remains under investigation.
