Man falls from 9th floor window trying to evade police

  • Print

A Winnipeg man is recovering in hospital after falling from a 9th floor window while trying to escape a police raid Sunday evening.

Investigators with the tactical support team burst into a suite of a Cumberland Avenue apartment block just before 10 p.m. to execute a search warrant in an ongoing drug and weapons investigation.

Four men were arrested without incident. But police say a fifth accused wouldn’t go so easy, crawling out the window of the residence and falling all the way down to the third-floor parkade. He suffered serious injuries in the process but has now been upgraded to stable condition.

Police say several guns, drugs, cash and ammunition were seized. Charges are now pending against the five men, aged 18 to 26. No names have been released.
