  • Print

Three men are in custody and charged in connection with a violent attack on Main Street Thursday night over a case of beer.

Winnipeg police said two men were badly beaten outside the Manwin Hotel at about 8 p.m. Thursday, when they refused to give up a case of beer to a trio of attackers.

Police said the three suspects first attacked a 37-year-old man to grab a case of beer he was carrying. The victim’s friend was able to retrieve the case and ran off but he was chased down by the three attackers and also beaten.

The 37-year-old man sustained minor injuries but his friend, 30, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Three men were arrested a short time later and are each facing charges of robbery with violence and aggravated assault: Robert Caine, 27, Ryan James Edel, 34, and Andre Collins Mitchell, 41.

Mitchell is also facing charges of breaching terms of probation.
