Winnipeg police have issued an arrest warrant following a Canada Day stabbing in Transcona.

Michael John Ernest Wereta, 27, is being sought by police for his alleged involvement in an incident in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue. A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition after being stabbed in the upper body.

The initial investigation revealed that a group of people had been in a parking lot when an argument between the victim and suspect occurred. Things turned physical, and the suspect eventually pulled out a weapon and stabbed the victim.

Police describe Wereta as Caucasian, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds with brown hair. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on Wereta’s whereabouts is asked to call police at (204) 986-2857 or CrimeStoppers at (204)786-TIPS (8477).
