Man, teen arrested after stabbing at Siloam Mission residence

A man and teenage girl are in custody after a stabbing at Siloam Mission’s Madison Lodge on Thursday night.

Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Eric Hofley said today that police and emergency crews rushed to the 200 block of Evanson Street after the stabbing was reported to them.

Hofley said he doesn’t know at this time if charges have been laid.

A 29-year-old man and a 17-year-old female have been arrested.

Hofley said a 41-year-old man is in stable condition in hospital.

Floyd Perras, Siloam’s executive director, said in a statement that none of the three were residents of Madison Lodge.

"The safety of our residents is our utmost priority and we do everything we can to provide the appropriate supports for people using our services," Perras said.

"We are praying for the victim and hope he makes a full recovery. Incidents like these show that there is such a great need in our city, and remind us why we partner with the community every day — to serve people who are struggling and often in desperate situations."

Siloam Mission’s transition services department will give trauma counselling and support for the lodge residents who need it.

The lodge provides 85 supportive suites for men and women who had been homeless.
