Man charged with second-degree murder in girlfriend's death

A 34-year old Winnipeg man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend at her rooming house suite yesterday morning.

Mulugetta Geddy Gillamichael was due to make a brief court appearance this morning.

Gillamichael is charged with the stabbing of his girlfriend, Valerie Payompee at 624 Balmoral Street at around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Police are expected to reveal more details surrounding the woman's death at a news conference this morning.
