Manitoba Start centre for immigrant workers opens
A new centre that matches new immigrants with Manitoba employers officially opened its doors at the newly renovated Avenue Building on Portage Avenue today.
The new location for the two-year-old Manitoba Start program cost $1.2 million.
Premier Greg Selinger, who presided at this morning's ceremony, said the program's services will now be co-ordinated in one highly accessible location.
"By connecting business leaders with skilled newcomers who can meet their staffing needs, Manitoba Start is supporting our provincial job market and economy," he said.
Today, the immigrant service hub also launched a direct telephone line for employers looking to fill labour shortages. The number is: 204-942-JOBS.
In 2011, Manitoba welcomed 15,962 immigrants.
