Manitoba donates $100K to disaster relief in Japan

WINNIPEG - The province is providing $100,000 for relief efforts in Japan.

Premier Greg Selinger said the funds will be given to the Manitoba Council for International Co-operation and usd for relief and redevelopment work as that country recovers from the earthquake and tsunami that struck last week.

"Manitoba has been fortunate to receive support from around the world when we’ve needed it the most and, like so many times before, we’re returning the favour," Selinger said in a prepared statement released this afternoon.

"Our thoughts are with the people of Japan who are enduring unimaginable suffering in the wake of this earthquake."

The province has previously supported relief efforts of the MCIC in response to several international disasters including the devastating earthquakes in Haiti, Indonesia, Pakistan and the landslide in the Philippines.
