Manitoba’s manufacturing industry posted one of the biggest monthly sales gains in the country in February, Statistics Canada said today.
The agency said the province’s manufacturers shipped out $1.32-billion worth of goods during the month. That was an increase of 3.7 per cent from January’s sales total of $1.27 billion, and was the third-biggest percentage gain after New Brunswick’s 18 per cent and Prince Edward Island’s 4.4 per cent.
February’s total was also a 1.2 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when $1.31-billion worth of goods were sold. That gain was the smallest among the seven provinces that saw a year-over-year increase.
Nationally, Canada posted its biggest monthly increase in sales since July 2011. Statistics Canada said $49.6-billion worth of goods were shipped during the month, which was a 2.6 per cent increase from January’s total of $48.3 billion.
It was also a 2.3 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when $48.5-billion worth of goods were sold, the agency added.
