Manitoba sees surge in wholesale sales: Statistics Canada

Manitoba posted one of the biggest increases in wholesale sales in the country in August, new Statistics Canada figures show.

The agency said today that Manitoba wholesalers shipped out $1.31-billion worth of goods during the month. That was an increase of 1.1 per cent from July’s total of $1.29 billion.

Only two other provinces saw bigger month-over-month increases — British Columbia at 1.5 per cent and Newfoundland and Labrador at 1.2 per cent, the figures show.

Canada saw its sales rise by 0.5 per cent to $49.7 billion from $49.4 billion in July.

Manitoba’s August total was also a 1.3 per cent improvement from a year earlier, when just under $1.29 billion worth of goods were sold. Canada’s year-over-year increase was 4.4 per cent.
