WINNIPEG - Daria Jorquera Palmer and Max Stearn are about to make fencing history in Manitoba.

The two members of the national fencing team will compete in the Senior World fencing championship when they travel to Catania, Italy next week for the 2011 version of the competition, Oct. 8-16.

This will be the first time two Manitobans have competed at the senior world championships.

Palmer, who competes in the epee category, has been to them twice. Stearn, who competes in the sabre, has competed at the junior worlds, but this will be his first time at the seniors.

Palmer will also become the first Manitoba woman to compete in epee at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 16 to 30. The pair are also the first two fencers from Manitoba to compete in the upcoming Olympic qualifications.
