Manufacturing shipments in Manitoba edged up for the second straight month in August, new Statistics Canada figures show.
The agency said Manitoba factories shipped out $1.31-billion worth of goods during the month. That was a 0.3 per cent increase from the previous month’s total of $1.30 billion, and followed a 2.1 per cent gain in July.
Manitoba was one of only five provinces to post stronger sales in August. However, it’s gain was the smallest among the five.
It was also one of only four provinces to see a year-over-year increase in sales, at 3.5 per cent. That was the second smallest gain among the four.
Nationally, Canada saw its manufacturing sales edge down 0.2 per cent to $49.5 million after three months of gains. However, August’s total was still a 0.3 per cent improvement from a year earlier.
